I’m still in the post Slovenia holiday blues!

I had such a fantastic time in Slovenia with Will. I keep finding myself looking scrolling through my camera roll and my Instagram reels from the trip multiple times a day. I feel so nostalgic for it already!

So, after such a fabulous trip, I want to share my ‘Must see things’ that we visited in Slovenia and show you what we got up to (whilst giving me the excuse to scroll through the pics again…!).

Although we loved staying in Bled and enjoyed every moment we had there, we also had the luxury of having hired a car for the week. The car gave us the freedom to explore more of the Slovenian countryside: and WOW we found some fabulous gems!

Vintgar Gorge

Although touristy, and us being 2 of those tourists, Vintgar Gorge was a must see. It was top of our priority list after we saw its beautifully clear river online. It is a notoriously scenic gorge walk, recommend on lots of travel sites … hence the tourists.

We made sure to get there pre 10 am so that we could park in the nearest car park (knowing from research that it fills up quite quickly).

It was €10 each to enter the gorge and we were there for around 2-3 hours.

We had a lot of fun taking photos here and really soaking up the views of the river and pointing out all the areas that looked swimmable even though swimming is not permitted here. It was just so clear that I wanted to get in!

The walk back to the car was beautiful too. The route is a one way along the gorge and then there is a choice as to which way to loop back round. We picked the longest route. The views of the mountains and rolling hills of green were quite a surprise following the contrasting gorges’ tunnel vision and woodland. Hitting the clearing felt quite surreal.

Pericnik Waterfall

Although on my ‘want to see’ list as opposed to ‘must see’, we actually accidentally stumbled across this waterfall when driving along the Triglavska Bistrica trail hoping to get some great sights of Mount Triglav and the surrounding mountains (which we did).

Pericnik waterfall is less than a 2km loop from the car park, just an incredibly steep climb to see the 52 meter high waterfall.

I was in utter awe of the magnificence of this sight. The waterfall falls from a great height and you are able to walk behind it. I could’ve sat and looked at it for hours and hours. Truly remarkable.

The most comparable waterfall I’ve seen to this is the Sgwd yr Eira in the Brecon Beacons, but it has nothing on Pericnik!

It was AMAZING!

Vogel (Cable Car)

Saving the best walk till (almost) last: walking through the ski centre was remarkable.

You take the cable car up from near Lake Bohinj and whizz straight up 959 meters of elevation to the ski resort. From there you can adventure into the mountains.

We had views of mount Triglav, Vogel, Soca, and many many other noteworthy peaks. It cost us €29.50 each, so certainly not a cheap outing, but wowie it was so so so worth it. When I next go to Slovenia (yes, I’ve already decided that I am deffo going back), I will certainly be doing it again and it will be top of my itinerary list.

These are views that I will never ever forget!

We took a walk towards Mount Sija, but stumbled across the chairlift which meant we could sit back an enjoy the view instead of getting sweaty walking up hill on a rather warm day.

We did however walk down the hill… but when we got to the bottom, we decided we wanted to go back round again and soak it all in once more.

It was really that beautiful. I could have gone round and round all day on the chair lift if I didn’t also want to go to lake Bohinj that day.

Lake Bohinj

I’d heard lots of fabulous things about Lake Bohinj, and it did not disappoint.

This lake is truly nestled below the mountains and so offers the most fantastic and dramatic scenery.

I’m sad that we didn’t get more time here to walk around the lake, but I’m not sure what we would’ve been able to give up to allow for more time here… all I keep telling myself is: next time.

We decided to paddle board at Lake Bohinj which was so much fun despite me being a wimp for the first 20 mins and too scared to try to stand up on it in case I fell in and washed away all of my sun cream that I hadn’t long applied. #gingerproblems

Once I was finally up, I got into my groove and loved sailing across the lake with panoramic views for miles in every direction.

After paddle boarding we also went for a swim because … why not?

It was a little chillier here in comparison to Lake Bled, but I would assume that is normal because it’s situated at a higher elevation.

I much preferred swimming here, it was deffo my favourite swim — even though I forgot my sea shoes and hurt my feet on the stones getting in. Pathetic, I know.

It was a more secluded and peaceful swim, and personally I think the views were better here.

If you’re heading to Slovenia, I hope you have a wonderful time! It is a remarkable country and I hope you find time to see some of these gems.
