As a countryside lover (as opposed to a city gal), I was pleasantly surprised by HOW beautiful the city of Ljubljana is and just how much I LOVED every moment exploring its streets!
Will and I spent three nights here, and had two days to cover everything we wanted to do here. We spent the first few days of our trip in Bled which you can read more about here.
Unfortunately, I was a bit unlucky whilst we were here and I had “a case of the snotts” as I like to call it. We had to do everything at a slow pace, but I think we managed to get to visit everything that we wanted to see. It was also a very HOT few days in Ljubljana whilst we were there, so regular breaks from the heat were helpful to restoring my poorly gal energy levels.
Like true tourists, we turned to Instagram, google, and travel blogs for the best things to see and do in Ljubljana.
Lots of these comprised of architectural features, so we covered a lot of ground to take them in as we wandered around.
This is what we got up to:
1. Ljubljana Castle

The castle was fantastic for getting those panoramic city views.
Lots of the castle has been modernised, but that didn’t take away from the history here. We really enjoyed the exhibits, especially the ‘Virtual Castle’ which was a gave a detailed but brief film summarising the history of the castle. The film was also a great chance for me to sit down!
We also loved the puppetry exhibit… although some puppets were a little creepy.

2. Triple Bridge
Of course, my boyfriend Will made sure that we crossed each of the three bridges of Triple Bridge whilst we were here!
The Ljubljanica River and the many many bridges just made this city so picturesque.

3. Dragon bridge
Another bridge… no surprises there really as the river runs right through the city.
The Dragon Bridge… any guesses as to why it’s named that!?

4. Church of Annunciation

After being wowed by the architecture of the rest of Ljubljana, it was of no surprise that it was spectacular on the inside of the Church of Annunciation as well as the outside.
5. Tivoli City Park

With said cold, we didn’t explore too much of Tivoli Park as it was huge!
However, it was nice to find such a large greenspace in a city…it didn’t feel like we were in a city anymore at all! Had I had more energy we would have probably explored a bit more
We made sure to stop for a morning coffee at the Art Gallery in the centre of the park which was DIVINE — none told me how good the coffee would be in Slovenia but it was amazing everywhere we went.
6. The House of Illusions
The House of Illusions was by far the coolest museum I have EVER been to!
There were lots of puzzles and also immersive illusions.
The most bizarre had to be the vortex tunnel which made you feel like there was no gravity. Hilarious to watch your partner incapable of walking in a straight line — very cool.

7. Boat Trip
We also did a little boat trip through the city centre which was perfect for sight seeing on a hot day!

It was really peaceful to cruise up and down the river. It took about an hour.
8. Food and Drink
The FOOD was also spectacular! Arguably trying out new restaurants is one of the best parts of going to a city. Whilst we were exploring we visited lots of bars and restaurants.
Some places worthy of mentions were:
- RawPasta – Because you can never have enough pasta, we chose RawPasta for our last meal out in Slovenia and it was scrummy. The art in the bathroom, declaring that spoons are a no go when eating pasta, was pretty memorable.
- Capriccio – 4 words: The most DELISH Ravioli. I would confidently give it a 10/10 for taste.
- Abi Falafel – We may have chosen this place after its namesake, but it was the perfect refreshing meal on a warm evening before some wines.
- Fany and Mary – We loved the location of the bar here. It was right next to the riverside and next to a few bars so the atmosphere was really nice here. We enjoyed a few drinks here and a few of the neighbouring bars over the few nights that we were here.

So there we are; the last ‘Abi in Slovenia’ blog!
I 100% will be making a trip back to Slovenia again. I loved everywhere we went, and I hope to discover more of this beautiful country another time.
